This report is about the sports and leisure practices in
the UAE and to get a good idea of how it was before and how it is now. I have
conducted an interview with my uncle who was very fond of sports when he was
young and he is still encouraging the youngsters of our family to be a part of
any sport activities. While interviewing him, I realized that the technology
has a wide impact in sports and leisure activities in the UAE and around the
world. Earlier there wasn’t anything like that and people spent their time by
sports and leisure which allowed them to interact with people and stay fit.
However, although the UAE has more
facilities for different types of sports now, still more than 50% of the UAE
national population is not taking advantage of it due to a huge gap created
from technology and social media activities.
He said that football is something which was one of
everyone’s favorites. It was officially started in 1971 and this is an
interesting game which people still play and take part in. He said that earlier
there weren’t enough facilities. Sanded ground, no shoes and just one football
and we used to play happily and with enthusiasm. He also added that there were
some other sports too like swimming.
When he differentiated the old world of sports and
leisure with the new world in UAE, he explained the situation is like we are
getting things on a plate all ready to eat. Today, he said there are a lot of
facilities in numerous different types of sports. There are indoor and outdoor
football pitches, cricket grounds, tennis grounds and many other sports
facilities which they couldn’t even imagine in the past.
He acknowledged the efforts the country has made to
encourage people around the world to be a part of their sports world. Today, the
UAE is the hub of international golf, cricket and tennis games and the country
is continuously improving their practice and administration to bring more
sports and leisure to bring the world to the UAE and that is incredible.
